Cliffhanger luxury house set on fire to demolish it

Perched on top of a cliff, this luxury lakeside house in Lake Whitney, Texas used to command breathtaking views.

But earth movements, which caused cracks, forced the occupants out of the US$800,000 (S$1 million) house earlier in the year. Its fate was sealed when it became a cliffhanger in a recent landslide.

To prevent it from plunging into the lake, the authorities decided to burn it down on June 12, and then demolished the remains, reported Reuters.

The owners not only mourned its loss but could not claim insurance from it. They also had to pay for the demolition costs.
