'Dud' Israeli shell kills 2 in Gaza

GAZA CITY, Palestinian Territories - A dud Israeli shell from this summer's Gaza's war exploded Friday, killing two people and wounding three others in the north of the Palestinian enclave, an official said.

The blast killed Ayman Abu Jebbeh and Abdullah Abu Asr, emergency services spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said.

The shell exploded in the Shejaiya neighbourhood, which lies on the edge of Gaza City and was subjected to some of the heaviest Israeli shelling during the July-August conflict.

Full details of the incident were not immediately available.

The war ended with a truce on August 26. It killed more than 2,140 Palestinians, most of them civilians, and 73 on the Israeli side, mostly soldiers.

It caused a vast amount of destruction to homes and infrastructure, leaving more than 100,000 Palestinians homeless in the long term, according to the UN.
