The SG50 weekend is coming up and Seth Yeo lists the exciting events and activities which will take place over the National Day period

1. #SgEatWithUs Celebrates By the Bay

Where: Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade
When: Aug 7, 8 and 9, noon to 10pm
Admission: Free (purchase food cards, at $12, $22 or $50 each, to buy the dishes)

Foodies should check out 12 unique dishes, such as lemongrass satay, braised duck and mango tofu cheesecake, concocted by passionate home cooks.

There will also be a carnival with various performances, giveaways and a fireworks display.

2. National Day Celebrations at the Esplanade

Where: Esplanade, Theatres on the Bay
When: Aug 6 to 10
Admission: Free

Free programmes at the Esplanade include dance and music performances by local talents such as Lawrence Koh with Nen and Kon-Fusionz, talks, art installations and a bazaar featuring local entrepreneurs.

3. Community Chest Heartstrings Walk

Where: Marina Bay Sands Events Plaza
When: Aug 7, from 7.30am
Admission: $10

Join a fun 4km walk with family, friends and the community.

Families can enjoy a carnival at the Event Plaza with activities such as face painting, balloon sculptures and handicrafts.

4. Garden Rhapsody SG50 Edition

Where: Supertree Grove, Gardens by the Bay
When: Aug 7 to 10, 7.45pm, 8.45pm, 9.30pm
Admission: Free

Gardens by the Bay presents a special SG50 edition, where the Garden Rhapsody music and light show will be accompanied by local hit music.

5. SG50 Concert Series in the Park

Where: Singapore Botanic Gardens
When: Aug 7 to 9, 10am to 10pm
Admission: Free

Singapore's first and sole Unesco World Heritage Site will host a carnival featuring artists like Taufik Batisah, The Sam Willows, a symphony concert, movie screenings, face painting, ketupat weaving, and a live screening of the National Day Parade.

In special heritage tours, you will get to learn about the garden's history, particular buildings and trees, among other things.

Singapore residents will get free admission into the National Orchid Garden from Aug 7 to 10.

6. Sports-themed carnival fun

Where: Singapore Sports Hub
When: Aug 8 to 9, 9am to 9pm
Admission: Free

The OCBC Square will be transformed into a carnival for all ages.

Among the highlights:

- Kampung and sports-themed games, mass workouts, carnival and board games and electrical motorcycle rides, also known as EcoRider

- Ah Boys to Men 3 will be screened on Aug 8, while the National Day Parade will be streamed live on Aug 9.

- Free bookings are available for the gym as well as the badminton, table tennis, volleyball and netball courts.

- Kids can enjoy fishing games and paddle boats at the OCBC Aquatic Centre.

If you have tickets to the Sing50 concert, you are in for a treat. Names such as Stefanie Sun, JJ Lin and Dick Lee are headlining a giant singalong of the greatest hits of local music.

7. Majulah Singapura NDP Celebrations

Where: The Padang
When: 4pm to 8.30pm

You cannot miss the biggest parade of the occasion. With Majulah Singapura as its theme, the National Day Parade will return to the Padang, where the first ever NDP was held.

Look to the skies as 20 F-16 fighter planes will fly in a "50" formation; military buffs will enjoy watching the armoured vehicles or battle tanks and more as the mobile column files past.

Tickets have already been given out by ballot. If you did not manage to get one, you can catch it at other locations such as at the Marina Bay area and the Sports Hub.

You can also catch it on television, from 5.35pm to 8.35pm.
