Getting on swimmingly

JAPAN - Freshwater and saltwater fish swim together in a cylindrical aquarium containing water suitable for both kinds of fish in Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture.

The aquarium, at Hachinohe city fishery science museum Marient, contains 26 fish including goldfish, a freshwater fish, and red sea bream, a saltwater fish.

Okayama University of Science and other institutions are developing the special water to make it possible to artificially breed saltwater fish in inland areas and farm freshwater fish and seawater fish in the same water tank.
