Grotesque stone head found in river

The Paris Fluvial Brigade retrieves a grotesque stone head, known as "Mascaron", from the Seine river on November 20, 2014.

The mascaron, one of the 381 ornament heads portraying various deities such as satyrs and sylvans that decorate the Pont-Neuf bridge, was accidentally found last September by a diver of the brigade beneath the bridge.

It is believed to have fallen into the river some 20 years ago, according to an official of the Fluvial Brigade.
