When you get to be 250 years old, you want something special with which to toast the landmark, and spirits-maker Hennessy has come up with a birthday cognac - the Hennessy 250 Collector Blend. Brand ambassador Jean-Michel Cochet has been assigned to spread the word around the globe on a "Grand Tour".
It was an Irish expatriate, retired soldier Richard Hennessy, who founded the firm in the French brandy-producing region of Cognac in 1765. They made terrific cognac in Cognac, and the Irishman reckoned he could create something a little different for markets elsewhere.
The dust has never settled since on bottles of this charming quaff. When Kilian Hennessy took over management of the firm in the 1970s, he merged it with Moet et Chandon to form Moet Hennessy, and then in 1987 that merged with Louis Vuitton to creating one of the world's largest luxury-brand conglomerates, LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet-Hennessy).
There was a management crisis the following year, with Bernard Arnault of fashion giant Christian Dior taking the helm at LVMH, backed by Guinness, of all outfits. Kilian Hennessy was kept on in an advisory role, however, and stayed there until his death in 2010.
The man was 103 years old, which perhaps says something about cognac and longevity.
Hennessy's own quarter millennium has witnessed exceptional success all over the world, as overseen by eight generations of the same family. |In celebration, the Hennessy 250 Collector Blend has been created from the best of ingredients.
The eaux-de-vie comes from wide-grain oak barrels that hold only 250 litres, smaller than usual. The cognac has been |aged up to 35 years and is distinguished by a bright, warm shade of amber and the aromatic tones of herbs.
On his Grand Tour, Cochet is inviting everyone to try a special feast in which the food is paired with Hennessy VS (Very Special), Hennessy VSOP (Very Superior Old Pale), Hennessy XO (Extra Old), Hennessy Paradis, Hennessy Paradis Imperial and Hennessy Richard.
Events being organised around the globe also include a variety of fun activities. Find out more about what's planned for Thailand at www.Facebook.com/HennessyThailand.
