Internet rallies around little girl after salesperson questions her choice of doll

One's a doll and one's a human child, but they're both doctors and they both rule. Clearly.

Sophia, a 2-year-old South Carolina girl, impressed her mum (and now, the whole internet) by shutting down some BS at the toy store, when her choice of doll was questioned by a grown-up. Stupid grown-ups!

As her mom, Brandi Brenner explained on Instagram over the weekend, Sophia took her potty graduation gift selection very seriously when the pair hit up their local Target.

According to Brenner, Sophia chose a "doctor doll" because she's pretty much obsessed with being a doctor. Upon taking the black doll to the counter, she was asked by a salesperson, "Are you sure this is the doll you want, honey?" To which she replied "Yes please!" But the salesperson continued, "She doesn't look like you. We have lots of other dolls that look more like you."

Um, excuse me?

But it's cool, because before her mother could respond, Sophia was already explaining the similarities between herself and the doll. "She's a doctor like I'm a doctor," she said. "And I'm a pretty girl and she's a pretty girl. See her pretty hair? And see her stethoscope?"

How cute, she's legit explaining love and tolerance to an adult. If only she didn't have to. But as her mum put it, "This experience just confirmed my belief that we aren't born with the idea that colour matters. Skin comes in different colors just like hair and eyes and every shade is beautiful."

Nick and I told Sophia that after 1 whole month of going poop on the potty, she could pick out a special prize at Target. She, of course, picked a new doll. The obsession is real. While we were checking out, the cashier asked Sophia if she was going to a birthday party. We both gave her a blank stare. She then pointed to the doll and asked Sophia if she picked her out for a friend. Sophia continued to stare blankly and I let the cashier know that she was a prize for Sophia being fully potty trained. The woman gave me a puzzled look and turned to Sophia and asked, "Are you sure this is the doll you want, honey?" Sophia finally found her voice and said, "Yes, please!" The cashier replied, "But she doesn't look like you. We have lots of other dolls that look more like you." I immediately became angry, but before I could say anything, Sophia responded with, "Yes, she does. She's a doctor like I'm a doctor. And I'm a pretty girl and she's a pretty girl. See her pretty hair? And see her stethoscope?" Thankfully the cashier decided to drop the issue and just answer, "Oh, that's nice." This experience just confirmed my belief that we aren't born with the idea that color matters. Skin comes in different colors just like hair and eyes and every shade is beautiful. #itswhatsontheinsidethatcounts #allskinisbeautiful #teachlove #teachdiversity #thenextgenerationiswatching

Damn straight it is. And since the re-posted Instagram image and caption has garnered over 168,000 shares and 403,000 reactions on Facebook, it seems ol' sad grown-up is in the minority.

Thanks, doctor doll!
