Nobel summit 'suspended' over Dalai Lama visa row

JOHANNESBURG - Cape Town's mayor on Thursday announced that a planned summit of Nobel peace laureates had been "suspended", citing the South African government's "intransigence" in not providing a visa to the Dalai Lama.

"This decision comes after the majority of Nobel Laureates and Laureate institutions requested that either the summit be moved to another country, or that the visa to His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, be granted unconditionally," the opposition-controlled city said in a statement.
