Photos show large python devouring giant bat in Australia

A couple from Sunrise Beach in Queensland, Australia witnessed a shocking scene in their backyard.

They saw a large, three-metre long carpet python swallowing a giant bat as it hung from the branch of a tree.

Photos of the incident were posted and shared on a Facebook page called Carpet Pythons.

According to Sunshine Coast Daily, the couple watched the snake trying to "navigate its jaw around the critter" for half an hour, from 20 metres away.

"It was just amazing to see the snake's mouth square as it tried to somehow fit the edged parts of the bat in," the woman said.
