Review: Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1R

$3,999, available next month

When Sony launched its Cyber-shot DSC-RX1 last year, it stuffed a 24.3-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor with a fast fixed 35mm f/2 lens in a compact camera body no bigger than a man's palm.

Now, the RX1's sister is here.

The RX1R shares the same specs except for the lack of an optical low-pass filter.

This filter, available in most digital cameras, suppresses unwanted moire and colour artefacts at the expense of lower resolution.

Minus this filter, the RX1R can achieve better and sharper resolution and fulfil the potential of its full-frame image sensor.
