Shanmugam thanks Oman for help in Yemen crisis

Minister for Foreign Affairs and Law K. Shanmugam met his Omani counterpart yesterday and conveyed his appreciation for Oman's recent help in evacuating Singaporeans from Yemen.

Oman's Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs Yousuf Alawi Abdullah arrived in Singapore on Monday for a two-day visit.

Earlier this month, Singapore had sought Oman's assistance as rival forces fought for control of neighbouring Yemen.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) had said it was "deeply concerned" about the deteriorating security in Yemen, and urged Singaporeans to leave the country.

In a statement, the MFA said Mr Shanmugam and Mr Yousuf also affirmed the warm bilateral ties between Singapore and Oman at their meeting, and exchanged views on the challenges facing the countries' respective regions.
