Student wins £3,500 for undue detention at London airport

A student won £3,500 (S$7,400) in damages after she was unduly detained for 17 hours at Heathrow airport in London, Malaysia Nanban reported.

Swathi Palisetty, who is studying at University of Bedfordshire, was initially held by the UK Border Agency at the airport upon her return from a trip home to India in December 2011.

She was later flown to Hyderabad after the detention, which came about following suspicion that she had arrived in Britain to work as a nanny.
