Two men shot at outdoor skating rink in midtown Manhattan

NEW YORK - Two men were shot on Saturday night at a midtown Manhattan outdoor skating rink which is a popular destination for tourists and shoppers.

Both men were in a stable condition at Bellevue Hospital, police said. One was shot in the leg and the other in the torso. The shooter or shooters were at large, they said.

Photos and videos posted online showed scores of people fleeing the crowded rink, and one man lying on the ice with what appeared to be a gunshot wound.

The rink, in Bryant Park near the New York Public Library, is surrounded by gift shops and stalls, and draws crowds of people, who wait in line to skate free of charge in the shadow of skyscrapers ringing the park, running along Sixth Avenue between 40th and 42nd Streets, a block from Times Square.
