Video clip of walking newborn blows netizens' minds

Most babies take their first steps between nine and 12 months, but one newborn in Brazil has blown netizens' minds when a video clip of her walking shortly after birth was shared online.

In the 42-second-long video, the infant can be seen walking on a table when a nurse held her upright.

The nurse was about to bathe the newborn when this took place, The Sun reported.

Other hospital staff in the room were amazed by the sight and exclaimed in Portuguese: "Oh my gosh, the girl is walking. Good gracious!"

The incident reportedly took place in a hospital in Brazil although it is unclear when it was filmed.

And when the video clip was shared on social news website Reddit, it elicited some humourous responses.

Although the baby's 'walking' looks like an incredible feat, it is actually a normal newborn reflex known as the walking or stepping reflex.

According to Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford, a baby will appear to be walking when held upright and his or her feet are touching a solid surface.

Just like the grasping reflex, this is one of the reflexes that paediatricians will monitor during a child's development.
