Walruses galore, but it's no beach party

These are some of the estimated 35,000 walruses on an Alaskan shore near the coastal village of Point Lay, about 1,130km north of Anchorage last weekend. The photo was taken during an annual survey by the United States' National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Scientists say the fast-melting Arctic sea ice forced the animals to head for shore.
