World's ugliest dog has followed owner to work for 15 years

There's more than meets the eye when it comes to Sweepea Rambo: the world's ugliest dog.

According to media reports, the 17-year-old Chihuahua won the dubious title of "World's Ugliest Dog" at the annual competition held at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in California, US, on June 24.

The New York Times and Mashable reported that the dog, which is blind in both eyes and weighs 4 pounds (1.8kg), was a fan favourite and had previously come in second in last year's competition.

Proving that there is more than meets the eye, Sweepea Rambo's owner, Jason Wurtz, said that the tiny dog followed him to work for the last 15 years.

It is clear that Mr Wurtz held affection for his dog, as he had detailed Sweepea Rambo's "baby-soft freckled skin and legendary blond Mohawk" in his application to the contest, reported the New York Times.

He won US$1,500 (S$2,037) and a six-foot-tall trophy as a prize.

According to Mashable, the runners-up were Josie, a Chinese crested mix which won second prize, and Rue, a Chinese crested which came in third place.

More notably, there was a dog named Himisaboo at the contest, whose hair was styled like Donald Trump.
