The annual Jakarta Fashion and Food Festival (JFFF) is back again from May 13 through June 7 in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. This year, the focus remains on food, fashion and a wine and cheese expo. But traditional and acoustic music performances, layar tancep outdoor movie screenings and cooking demonstrations are expected to draw a bigger crowd to the event.
Here is a list of five things to do and see throughout the 26-day festival.
Savour local cuisine
Annually held in the outdoor area of La Piazza shopping centre, JFFF's food festival is probably the most sought-after event of the entire festival.
This year, the venue, dubbed Kampoeng Tempo Doeloe, has been transformed to look like Sunda Kelapa Port with 117 food stalls filling the area and serving more than 200 traditional dishes from around the country.
Various food dishes and traditional delicacies can be found at the place. Foodies can try the savory Bakmi Kepiting Chuan (Chuan crab noodles), Sate Lilit, Pempek Palembang (Palembang fish cake) and Sate Maranggi. Or indulge themselves with sweet treats and snacks like Serabi Solo Notosuman (Solo coconut pancake), Es Durian (ice durian) and Es Pisang Ijo (green banana dessert). Food prices during the festival range from Rp 12,000 (less than US$1) to Rp 45,000.
Try some wine and cheese
The Jakarta Wine and Cheese Expo is back this year, offering a wide range of wine and cheese selections from various countries such as Argentina, Australia, Austria, Canada ,Chile, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Portugal, South Africa and the US. You can have a taste of these products in addition to enjoying great deals on purchases of selected products.
A sommelier competition, cooking demonstrations and wine dinners with famous chefs are also being held at the event.
Marvel at latest fashion collections
The fashion part of JFFF starts with a trade show named Fashion Village, held until May 31 featuring Indonesian fashion brands lining the mall's corridors.
Fashionistas can witness a series of fashion shows in the ballroom of Harris Hotel Kelapa Gading until May 28 that will feature renowned local designers like Carmanita, Musa Widyatmojo, Oscar Lawalata and Adjie Notonegoro.
A fashion award ceremony will also be held this year in appreciation of Indonesian fashion designers and innovators, with the Solo Batik Pekalongan fashion show from Didi Budiardjo in collaboration with Dekranasda Pekalongan set as the closing event on May 28.
Challenge yourself in a marathon
Having successfully organised last year's Jakarta Wine & Cheese Run at La Piazza Kelapa Gading, this year the sports event is adapted from the annual race Marathon du Medoc in Bordeaux, France, involving runners from Asia Pacific.
Winners will be funded to attend the Mount Fuji Marathon in Japan on Nov. 29.
Join photo competition
Open to both professionals and non-professionals, the competition has four categories: Fashion, Kampoeng Tempo Doeloe, Gading Nite Carnival and Jakarta Wine & Cheese Run.
