8 new airline routes from Singapore to look out for

As one of the world's busiest transport hubs, Singapore offers an enviable array of flights to fantastic destinations the world over.

These are Skyscanner's top picks from the latest destinations added in 2015 that are accessible from Singapore's Changi Airport.

1. Auckland

Mordor is far, but a journey to the Shire is a mere ten-hour flight away. This new direct flight between Singapore and Auckland, launched earlier this year, is the first return service between Singapore and New Zealand.

To celebrate this alliance, Air New Zealand and Singapore Airlines are offering three direct flights a day, connecting travellers to more than 20 domestic destinations.

If you're an adrenaline junkie, Auckland has plenty in store for you. Choose from SkyJump, canyoning, bungee jumping off bridges, helicopter and Harley rides. Or simply bask in the green glory of New Zealand's pristine environment.

2. Myanmar

Myanmar is a gorgeous country full of awe-inspiring nature, excellent food and welcoming people and with Myanmar National Airlines launching its Singapore route in August, it's now easier than ever to immerse yourself in its rich culture and history.

Do visit the Shwedagon Pagoda, which is the largest and oldest golden monument on earth. According to legend, this magnificent structure was first erected 2,500 years ago and is said to enshrine holy relics such as strands of Buddha's hair.

Myanmar is also notable for its giant artifacts, like the largest man-made book ever created along with the biggest ringing bell on earth. There is an abundance to experience in this country that is just beginning to open itself to the world, so the time is now for a trip.

3. Cairns

The Great Barrier Reef is calling! Cairns, one of Australia's most stylish cities, is not only perfect for a relaxed getaway but is also filled with World Heritage wonders.

Dive, snorkel, go on an outback journey, shop local at markets, eat, or hike, Cairns will appeal to any type of traveller.

4. Muscat

Oman is a gorgeous holiday destination criminally underrated by most travellers.

Since the beginning of 2015, direct flights have been running from Singapore to Muscat with Oman Air. Pay a visit to the Mutrah Souq, a marketplace chock full of exotic knick-knacks, to bargain for hand-embroidered shawls, garments, nuts, spices, incense, earthenware and so much more.

The weather is warm and dry all year round, which makes it a great destination for outdoor activities, such as rock climbing, camel racing and dolphin watching. Scuba diving here is exceptional as well!

5. Doha

You can now fly to Doha directly on board Qatar Airways' A350. This means you don't have to depend solely on Dubai when you're en route to Europe.

Why not take a tour around Qatar for a change? With the introduction of this route that leaves in the morning, you will be able to have daytime connections to Europe and it also makes travel to North America easier, cutting down the general transit time from 8 hours to 3 hours. While you're there make sure to visit The Corniche, one of Doha's most scenic areas with a 7km waterfront boardwalk surrounded by lush greenery.

Also pop by Katara, a cultural village, to see some amazing statues and have a memorable meal in one of their restaurants.

6. Sapporo

Hokkaido is second-to-none for its incredibly fresh seafood. On May 1st, Thai AirAsia X launched a new route from Singapore to Sapporo via Bangkok.

Avoid the troublesome clearance of immigration during transit by using AirAsia's Fly-thru connecting services in Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport. Sapporo, Hokkaido's biggest city, will delight travellers with its fantastic food and natural beauty. You'll find excitement all year round in scenic Hokkaido.

SilkAir now flies to Bali on a daily basis which means, together with Singapore Airlines, that there are a total of 5 round-trip flights connecting Denpasar and Singapore.

8. Melbourne
