KUANTAN, MALAYSIA: A baby boy, with his umbilical cord still intact, was found in a box at a vegetable farm in Blue Valley, Cameron Highlands.

State CID deputy chief Supt Nordin Mustapha said the baby was found at about 4pm on Tuesday following information from the public.

"The baby, weighing about 3kg, was found crying in the box and covered with a piece of cloth," he said in his office here yesterday.

Supt Nordin added that the baby was sent to the Cameron Highlands Hospital and was reported to be in good health.

A police report was lodged on Wednesday and police were now trying to trace the parents, he said.

The case was being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code and the public were urged to come forward if they had any details about the baby. They could call 05-491-2080 or the nearest police station, Supt Nordin said.
