KUALA LUMPUR - An unemployed man smiled when a magistrate told him he would be going to jail for 20 months and be caned three times for molesting a two-year-old girl.

This angered magistrate Aina Azahra Arifin.

"What are you smiling at? You heard the charge. It is bad.

"You are a 24-year-old man. You should know what you should do," she told the accused, Mohd Saifullah Abd Karim.

According to the charge, Mohd Saifullah kissed his neighbour's young daughter on her cheeks and body as well as rubbed his private parts on her.

The offence occurred in front of her house in Sentul at 10.30pm on Oct 17. Court documents showed that the victim's mother came out from their flat and saw her on the accused's lap.

The housewife, 24, noticed that her daughter's pants had been pulled down and Mohd Saifullah's trouser zip was open.

She immediately grabbed her child and called the police.

The victim was later examined at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital and the initial medical report stated there were reddish marks on her private parts.

Aina ordered that the jail term begin from yesterday.
