Foreign worker and maid found dead in Geylang hotel

A foreign worker and a Filipino maid were found dead at a hotel in Geylang on Sunday night.

Their bodies were discovered by the hotel's employee at around 11.40pm at Summer Hotel, along Geylang Lorong 22.

Lianhe Wanbao reported that the male victim, Mr Mohammad Sumon Lutfar, is believed to be a 22-year-old man from Bangladesh, and the female victim, Ms Rezzilyn Lodia Vinegas, is a 33-year-old woman from the Philippines.

According to reports, the two had met about six months ago and had started to go steady a few months later.

Mr Sumon, who is said to have held a office job in an air-con company, lavished gifts such as a silver necklace on Ms Vinegas. The pair was described to be deeply in love, and had even exchanged engagement rings, The New Paper (TNP) reported.

A check by TNP found that both parties had posted messages on their FaceBook walls proclaiming their love for each other.

Ms Vinegas FaceBook wall was filled with comments such as "Go for someone whose not only proud and glad to have u, but will also take the risk and effort just to be with u (sic)." Mr Sumon was less prolific in his posts, but also posted messages such as "I'm madly in love with?"

However, reports by The Straits Times said the couple had been quarreling often, and Ms Vinegas' friends said that she had been considering breaking up with Mr Sumon.

Interviews with Mr Sumon's colleagues revealed that unlike his partner, who had told her friends of the romance and that they were engaged, Mr Sumon had kept their relationship a secret.

His colleagues said they had no idea he had a girlfriend.
