Adopted boy sexually abused by depraved dads

Police arrested the gay couple immediately after finding evidence of their child sex abuse and rescued the boy from them. The boy would have continued suffering years of abuse in silence had police not found a crucial lead while investigating a child sex offender in Wellington.

AUSTRALIA - Australian police have described the case of a six-year-old boy who was sexually abused by his adoptive gay fathers and other people as "depraved".

The authorities in Australia and the US worked together to bring the men to justice.

They had lived in the north Queensland city of Cairns and presented themselves as loving fathers.

But the baby boy, now eight, they adopted from a Russian woman in 2005 for US$8,000 (S$10,000) had been offered to others for sexual exploitation from a very young age.

Both men were arrested in California, US, last year and charged.

Last weekend, one was jailed in the US for 40 years while the other is awaiting sentencing.

Queensland Detective Inspector Jon Rouse, who heads the task force which investigates online child exploitation and abuse, told AFP: "What's pretty sad about this one is the way this child came into their lives. It's extremely depraved."

Police alerted

It is not known if the boy was conceived with one of the men's sperm. But he had been living as the couple's son when a chance discovery in New Zealand put police on their track.

The authorities investigating a child sex offender in Wellington had found images of the boy on the man's computer.

Further investigations unearthed chat logs between the couple and other child sex offenders.
