Man held over fatal slashing of woman

SINGAPORE - A young woman has died after a suspected slashing at her flat in the early hours of Sunday. The 25-year-old reportedly suffered at least 10 wounds to the face during the grisly attack, which is believed to have followed a row with her boyfriend.

She later died at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

A man aged 30 was arrested at the scene. Both he and the victim are believed to be Chinese nationals.

Neighbours told The Straits Times they heard sounds of a quarrel from the Choa Chu Kang flat before the attack, followed by a woman's loud cries.

Mr Elfie Irwan, 25, who lives two floors below, said: "I heard some loud sounds, banging, things dropping on the floor, past two in the morning."

Witnesses who saw paramedics attending to the victim said she had at least 10 slash wounds on her face, according to Shin Min Daily News.

Another neighbour said blood from the attack had pooled on the floor outside the flat.

When The Straits Times visited the scene yesterday afternoon, cleaners were busy scrubbing away blood stains.
