Contract con

PETALING JAYA, Malaysia - Businessmen wanting to secure contracts as school suppliers have been cheated into paying high fees by conmen posing as Education Ministry and department officials.

These conmen entice the victims, who are mainly stationery and souvenir suppliers and bookstore owners, by telling them to pay up quickly or lose the contract.

Unsuspecting traders have fallen for the trick, with some using their life savings and one even selling his house to pay the conmen.

Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said the approach of the conmen was not in line with the financial procedures of procurement of the Government.
