By Paul Lim

SINGAPORE - The People's Action Party (PAP) has appointed Mr Khaw Boon Wan, Minister For National Development, as the new chairman of its central executive commitee (CEC).

He will take over the post from Mr Lim Boon Heng, who retired from politics just before the May 7 General Election.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will remain as the secretary-general while the two deputy prime ministers, Mr Teo Chee Hean and Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, will now be the first and second assistant secretary-generals respectively.

The composition of the 18-member CEC remains unchanged, despite the reshuffled responsibilities.

Retired ministers who are still on the CEC as ordinary ministers are Mr Goh Chok Tong, Mr Lee Kuan Yew and Mr Wong Kan Seng.

Mr George Yeo and Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, who were not elected, are also members of the CEC.
