Second train disruption in two days draws ire

TRAIN services were disrupted for the second time in two days yesterday, delaying commuters during the evening peak-hour rush.

SMRT said north-bound train services between Marina Bay and Bishan stations were closed last night.

The train operator added that a 40m section of the power rail between City Hall and Dhoby Ghaut stations was found to be damaged.

Public servant Moon Ho, who was affected, said: "This is the second time it's happening this week and I think it's unacceptable."

She said the disruption happened at around 7pm.

Commuters sent in photos to online citizen-journalism portal Stomp showing passengers walking along the tracks to the nearest stations.

On Twitter, one netizen posted an image of a window he said was smashed by commuters to improve ventilation in a stalled train.

At press time, SMRT said it was working to repair the damage. It hopes to resume normal operations by this morning.

As for the partial Circle Line breakdown on Wednesday, SMRT said it was still working to resolve the fault that caused it.

Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew said on Facebook last night that he has asked the Land Transport Authority to assemble a team of experts to help in a review of Singapore's train systems.
