SIA cancels NY flights due to blizzard

SINGAPORE - Four Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight to and from New York will be cancelled on Feb 8 due to heavy snow and strong winds, the local carrier said on its website.

The decision to cancel the flights follows a blizzard warning that was issued by the National Weather Service yesterday.

Flights SQ022 from Singapore to New York (Newark) and SQ021 from New York (Newark) to Singapore will be cancelled on Feb 8.

Similarly, SQ026 from Frankfurt to New York (JFK) and SQ025 from New York (JFK) to Frankfurt scheduled to depart on Feb 8 will also be cancelled.

SQ026 on Feb 8 servicing the Singapore - Frankfurt - New York (JFK) route is presently planned to operate on schedule. But SIA said that the flight may, however, be delayed or terminated in Frankfurt, depending on the weather advisory.

As for the SQ025 flight scheduled on Feb 9 from Frankfurt to Singapore, SIA said it will depart on schedule at STD 1150 hrs (local time).

Customers affected will be rebooked on alternative flights and are advised to check the SIA website regularly for updates.

The airline will waive administrative fees for refund, re-booking or re-routing for customers holding confirmed tickets issued on or before Feb 7, 2013, for travel to and from New York (JFK) and Newark between Feb 8-10. The waivers also apply to KrisFlyer redemption tickets.

Customers with flight-related queries may call SIA contact centres at (65)6223 8888 (Singapore),
1800 742 3333 (New York) or +49 69 7195 200 (Frankfurt).

Meanwhile, British Airways also posted on Twitter that severe winter conditions throughout the eastern seaboard of US may cause flight disruptions to its flights. The airline has advised passengers to check the status of their flights here before travelling to the airport.
