HTC Flyer to swoop into M'sia next month

KUALA LUMPUR - The Tablet device market in the region is going to get a little more crowded next month with the availability of the compact and lightweight HTC Flyer in Malaysia.

Sporting an aluminium unibody construct, the Flyer weighs just 415g and features a seven-inch touchscreen display with a 1,024x600 pixel resolution.

According to Maxis representatives, the Flyer is powered by a 1.5GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of internal Flash storage and supports Adobe Flash 10.1 for enhanced web browsing.

Though the HTC Tablet doesn't run on the Android 3.0 Honeycomb platform, it will run Android 2.3.3 with HTC's Sense interface that has been optimised for tablets.

However, HTC said users will have the option to upgrade to Honeycomb later this year. The Tablet will also come with a pressure-sensitive stylus that takes advantage of HTC's Scribe technology to draw, write and paint on the device. HTC said the main highlight of the Flyer is its powerful note-taking tool which gives users the ability to highlight notes and link audio cues to notes.

The HTC Flyer will come with a five-megapixel autofocus camera that can also record videos in 720p. It also has a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.

If you are intending to use the HTC Flyer for viewing videos, it supports a variety of video formats including MP4, WMV, AVI, XVID, 3GP and more. Other features include an internal GPS antenna as well as Bluetooth 3.0 and WiFi 802.11b/g/n connectivity. Users will also be able to expand the device's storage using Micro SD memory cards.

The HTC Flyer will be available on May 12 at Maxis Centres and partner stores as well as other electronic retail outlets in Malaysia for RM2,499 (around S$1,027), said Maxis representatives.
