THIS year's Oscar ceremony, to be held at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles on Feb 22, celebrates films which will put a spring in anyone's step.

Not only are the themes of this year's Best Picture nominees less bleak compared to last year's, there is no writers' strike looming that could derail the glitzy ceremony.

Perhaps the 5,800 voters of the academy, comprising members of the Hollywood film industry, feel it is time for a little uplift now that a new Presidential administration has entered office.
