Beyonce, Jay-Z splurge on baby

SHE is barely four days old, but her celebrity parents have already spent more than a million dollars on her.

Blue Ivy Carter's parents, Jay-Z, 42, and Beyonce, 30, have splashed out on such items as a diamond-encrusted high chair and other luxury goods for their child.

The newborn even has three identical nurseries already made up in the couple's three US homes, Daily Mail reported, quoting Star magazine.

The R&B singer and her rapper husband spent US$370,000 (S$476,000) alone on the special bedrooms for the baby.

A source told Star magazine: "They've bought a Swarovski-studded high chair by Carla Monchen for US$15,483 and a Fantasy 'posh tots' coach carriage crib for US$46,450.

"Jay-Z bought Beyonce a solid-gold handmade Ginza Tanaka rocking horse for US$620,000. They've even splashed out on a US$30,968 magical windmill playhouse for the garden and a mini Bugatti car too."

The couple are also reported to have bought expensive jewellery and baby trinkets to mark the birth of their first child.

All this excitement masks the fact that the couple suffered heartbreak before baby Blue Ivy Carter came along.

Last week, Jay-Z revealed Beyonce suffered a miscarriage before getting pregnant with Blue Ivy Carter last year.

The rapper made the revelation in a new song, Glory, which he posted on his website, Life and Times, on Monday.

The tune is a tribute to their daughter. In the track, Jay-Z talks about where the child was conceived (Paris) and reveals that Beyonce had lost a child.

The sound of a crying Blue Ivy Carter can be heard at the end of the song.

It's not all about spending on the little baby, though.

USA Today has quoted Mr Gary Morgan, CEO of celebrity photo agency Splash News, saying that the rights for the first pictures of the baby could be sold for as high as US$100,000 in the US and for up to US$500,000 for global rights.
