PUB should not have used "ponding" to describe floods: Balakrishnan

During the Parliament session on Monday, Dr Balakrishnan said national water agency PUB should not have used the word "ponding" to describe water-logged areas.

In December, intense rainfall caused areas of Lucky Plaza and Liat Towers to flood.

Dr Balakrishnan said the Ministry for the Environment and Water Resources found no signs of blockage when they checked Stamford Canal and drains near the flooded areas. He said: "As far as I am concerned, PUB should not have not used the word 'ponding'. I call a spade a spade. A flood is a flood."

He added that the ministry has stepped up checks on drains and canals during the monsoon season.
