Mother of maid in Geylang case: She can't accept daughter is dead

Mother of maid in Geylang case screams, faints on hearing news

The death made the TV news in the Philippines and spread like wildfire on Facebook.

But Mrs Matilde Lodia Vinegas, 52, didn't have a clue that the woman was her eldest daughter.

Miss Rezzilyn Lodia Vinegas, 33, and her Bangladeshi lover, Mr Md Sumon Md Lutfar, 22, were found dead in a room in Summer Hotel, at Lorong 22 Geylang, at about 11.30pm on March 4.

The next day, Mrs Vinegas, still completely unaware of her daughter's death, received a call from the Department of Foreign Affairs in the Philippines, asking her to meet the director the next morning.

Anxious and suspecting that something was wrong, Mrs Vinegas took the hour-long bus ride with her eldest son, Mr Emmanuel Lodia Vinegas.

Speaking through her elder sister, who gave her name only as Mrs Fatima, 57, Mrs Vinegas said: "The director said that it is official, that it is my daughter. "Then they gave me a letter from the Philippines embassy in Singapore that confirmed her death."
