New park connector to link Gardens by the Bay to Changi

SINGAPORE - A new park connector will link East Coast Park and Gardens by the Bay by the end of 2014, allowing visitors to access the entire south-eastern coastline of Singapore by foot or on bicycles.

According to local news sources, construction of the park connector is scheduled to start next year and be completed by the end of 2014.

National Parks Board (NParks) director Chia Seng Jiang told a local news source that the agency is planning to form an uninterrupted stretch of parkland around the south-eastern coastline.

The Eastern Coastal Loop, which currently links Changi Beach to East Coast Park via a 18km route, will be stretched to about 25km with the completion of this new park connector.

Residents staying in the eastern areas of Singapore, such as Pasir Ris, Tampines, Simei and Bedok, can then stroll, jog or cycle to various attractions without using public or private transport.

They can get from Changi Beach Park to East Coast Park using the Coastal Park Connector, before moving on to Gardens by the Bay.

From Gardens by the Bay, they can access Marina Barrage and the future Sports Hub.
