Sticker Lady, alleged helper charged with mischief

The "Sticker Lady", who allegedly spray-painted the words "My Grandfather Road" on several roads here, and her alleged male accomplice were charged in court yesterday.

Samantha Lo Xin Hui, 26, the founder of online magazine RCGNTN, was charged with 15 counts of mischief over offences committed between November 2011 and May last year.

The offences included pasting stickers with the words "No Need To Press So Many Times" on traffic-light control boxes and spray-painting "My Grandfather Building" on an exterior wall of Realty Centre in Enggor Street.

It cost $3,500 to remove the red paint and repaint the wall in the latter incident, according to court documents.

Graffiti artist Anthony Chong Tze Chen, 30, was charged with eight counts - seven for abetting Lo and one for committing mischief.

The offences he allegedly committed took place on May 16 and 17 last year.

He is believed to have acted as a lookout when Lo allegedly spray- painted several public roads and the Realty Centre wall.

He is also believed to have pasted a sticker which read "So Kancheong For What" on a pedestrian sign near a lamp post in Robinson Road on May 17.

They are both likely to plead guilty next Tuesday in the Subordinate Courts. If convicted, Lo and Chong each face a fine or up to two years' jail, or both.

The Attorney-General's Chambers said in a statement yesterday that various factors - such as the level of seriousness of the criminal acts and the duo's individual levels of culpability - were carefully considered in deciding to charge them with mischief.

Both Lo and Chong were arrested by the police separately in June last year for vandalism.

A vandalism conviction carries a fine of up to $2,000 or jail for up to three years. Male offenders may also be caned.

On Monday, Law Minister K. Shanmugam told The Straits Times that he had written an appeal letter, on behalf of the accused - one of whom is a resident in his ward - in his capacity as a Member of Parliament for Nee Soon GRC.
