DIEGO Forlan and Sergio Aguero proved too classy a double act for Fulham in Wednesday's Europa League final, combining to earn Atletico Madrid a 2-1 win and their first major European trophy in 38 years.

Uruguay's Forlan scored both goals, the second just four minutes from the end of extra time, after being set up on each occasion by his Argentinian teammate.

Fulham showed all the strength of character that had earned the modest club their first European final
appearance, but their epic journey, which began last July, ended in heartbreak.

They had recovered from Forlan's first goal, with Simon Davies equalising just five minutes later, and defended
well until Forlan's second sealed their fate.

"Unfortunately, Diego Forlan popped up to score right at the end, and there was no time to recover," Fulham manager Roy Hodgson said. "It was a bitter disappointment."
