American pop singing sensation Katy Perry upped the tempo on the first day of SingFest.

Headlining the event, the 25-year-old singer-songwriter opened her segment of the concert with her 2008 hit single "I Kissed A Girl", the song that shot her to fame.

Despite being banned on Singapore's radio stations, everyone sang out loud to the lyrics.

The crowd went wild as she jumped on to stage in a latex black and red floral dotted bikini.

What seemed to be a subdued evening of acts turned nuts as she sashayed her way on to the stage and strutted her candy stuff.

At her press conference on Monday, Perry said we can expect "a little California in Singapore" with regards to her concert.

And if that means putting some heat into the night, then Perry did just that. Her performance was sizzling hot!

Backed up by a band in colourful garb, the stage had beach props such as an inflatable ball and whale floats that created a sunny atmosphere.

Singing her hit songs "Hot and Cold" and "California Girls", everyone sang along and cheered crazily for her.

She also sang tracks from her newest album, "Teenage Dream" - the title track "Teenage Dream" and a rather suggestive "Peacock".

At one point in the evening, Perry asked for a fan to come on a stage and a lucky guy got to see her really up close.

Perry sang to him and when he asked for her hug, she pecked him right on the lips. Lucky devil!

Even the girls in the audience were screaming "lust" for Perry.

The other acts on the first day of SingFest were Inch Chua, The Like, Orianthi, Wondergirls and Tokio Hotel.

Some enthusiasm was shown when the Wondergirls came on, meaning, people actually stood up.

The clincher was when everyone followed the American-sounding sweet Korean girls' steps to "Nobody".

Tokio Hotel brought out the craziness of the younger fans of the night. Lots of screaming for these boys.

But the best had to be Katy Perry.

She certainly delivered an amazing concert.
