NATIONAL paddler Feng Tianwei was yesterday crowned the inaugural winner of the Singapore Table Tennis Association's (STTA) Best Player of the Year award.

The accolade capped a fantastic 2009 for the world No. 6, who took on the role of Singapore's No. 1 in the absence of veteran Li Jiawei.

The Straits Times Athlete of the Year award nominee had led the women's team to second-place finishes at the World Team Cup and Asian Table Tennis Championships. She won her second singles Pro Tour title at the Korean Open in August and reached a career-high world No. 5 in November.
