10,000 CCTV cameras to be installed in Hyderabad

Hyderabad will soon have international-standard surveillance with the installation of 10,000 CCTV cameras.

Police commissioner M. Mahendar Reddy said the cameras will be installed at a cost of Rs600 crores (S$120 million). The project, the biggest of its kind in India, is being launched this year and will take one to two years to complete.

With the implementation of the project, Mr Reddy said policemen will not need to be stationed on streets and at traffic islands. "We can now use manpower efficiently for intelligence gathering, crime prevention and other tasks," he added.
