14 newborn pandas unveiled in Chengdu

14 giant panda cubs born in 2013 were presented to the public at a press conference on Sept 23, 2013. They were born between July and September at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.

The newborn panda cubs were placed on a crib at the research base in Chengdu, in China's Sichuan province for photo and video opportunities.

The base also introduced the global breeding situation of giant pandas this year. Giant pandas are notoriously hard to breed in captivity so it's no wonder that the base is eager to show them off.

The oldest of the bunch weighs roughly four times as much as the youngest, who was born 40 days later. A keeper said the biggest cub weighs almost 4kg. The smallest is only around 600 or 700 grams.

Giant pandas are one of the world's most endangered animals with approximately 300 living in captivity. Fewer than 1600 live in the wild in China.
