7 Lion Air staff arrested for theft

Police arrested seven baggage handlers employed by Lion Air for allegedly stealing jewelry from a passenger's baggage at Kualanamu International Airport in Deli Serdang on Wednesday.

Deli Serdang Police crime unit chief Adj. Comr. Martuasah Tobing said the baggage handlers, identified only as NS, 22; AH, 23; AY, 29; AF, 29; AR, 31; MR, 26 and DS, 24, were apprehended by airport security guards and handed over to the police on Wednesday.

Martuasah said the baggage handlers were arrested after a Lion Air passenger reported that their jewelry was missing.

"They are still being questioned. They are still being treated as witnesses," he said, adding that the police were also examining the CCTV footage of the baggage handlers at work.

On Jan 7, at least a dozen baggage handlers from Lion Air at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, were arrested for allegedly stealing from passengers.
