Abhisit, Yingluck sign condolence book at Singapore embassy in Thailand

About 700 turned up to sign the condolence book for the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew at the Singapore embassy in Bangkok, Singapore's Ministry of Foreign affairs (MFA) said in a statement today.

These included seven former Thai prime ministers - Prem Tinsulanonda, Anand Panyarachun, Chuan Leekpai, Banharn Silapa-archa, Somchai Wongsawat, Abhisit Vejjajiva, and Yingluck Shinawatra.

Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn sent his representative Kasame Yoosooka to convey his sympathy and condolences.

The Singapore-Thai Chamber of Commerce, Singapore International School of Bangkok, and Anglo Singapore International School also visited the embassy to pay tribute to Mr Lee.

Many of the 550 Singaporeans who went to the embassy could not hold back their tears, the MFA said.

It added: "Some had travelled from the provinces like Chiang Mai, in some cases taking a nine-hour coach ride each way, to sign the condolence book. Some intended to return to Singapore to pay their last respects to Mr Lee in person."
