Bangladesh to hold general election on Jan 5: official

DHAKA - Bangladesh will hold a general election on January 5, organisers said on Monday, amid fears of widespread violence and threats by the opposition to stage a crippling wave of protests.

"The election will be held on January 5," Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad announced in an address broadcast by the state-run BTV network.
