Basarnas focuses search on bodies, black box of AirAsia flight QZ8501

National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) chief Air Marshal FH Bambang Soelistyo has said that the joint search and rescue (SAR) team on Friday was focusing on finding the bodies of AirAsia QZ8501 passengers and the black box of the Airbus A320 plane.

"We have every tool and equipment that we need to look for the plane, especially its black box, on the seabed. We have deployed the BPPT [Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology] research vessel, plus geo surveillance vessels are at the crash site," Bambang said on Friday at Basarnas headquarters in Central Jakarta.

However, he said that bad weather, which has hindered the search mission over the last few days, was a worry.

Drizzle and light clouds were present over Pangkalan Bun waters, Central Kalimantan, Friday morning, with rain, strong winds and high waves up to 4 meters forecast until Sunday.

He said that strong sea currents had also kept debris moving.
