Bhutan royal family share close-up photos of baby prince

SINGAPORE - Two weeks after Bhutan's royal couple welcomed their first child, close-up photos have finally been released to the world.

Bhutan's queen Jetsun Pema shared close-up photos of her child on Facebook on Sunday (Feb 21) to commemorate King Jigme Khesa Namgyel Wangchuck's 36th birthday.

She wrote: "To Commemorate His Majesty's 36th Birth Anniversary on 21st February, we are delighted to share a collection of wonderful photographs of His Royal Highness The Gyalsey, with His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen."

Two photos of the baby prince wrapped up in an orange blanket were taken by the king himself while the rest were portraits of the young family.

Bhutan's prince was born on Feb 5, but the family has yet to reveal his name.

The family had first shared a photo of the newborn on Feb 9, but his face was covered by blankets.

In the photo taken at Lingkana Palace to mark the Losar holiday, the prince is surrounded by the royal family.

King Jigme and Queen Pema were married in an elaborate fairytale wedding in 2011, five years after he ascended the throne.
