Cabs in Mumbai to install panic buttons

The transport department has given fleet and taxi aggregator firms until Jan 15 to install panic buttons in all cabs, set up distress helpdesks and control rooms to track cab movements and provide helplines and app-based emergency services.

The deadline for submissions of security features and suggestions to the transport commissioner's office was Dec 31, and the transport department feels a fortnight is enough for them to implement the security features. Companies that do not comply with the directives by Jan 15 will face having their licences suspended.
