A family of four in Tamil Nadu, India, were woken up by their cat and fled just before their house crumbled, reported Tamil Nesan.
Govindan, 48, his wife and two children were fast asleep when his daughter's pet cat began crying out at about 5am.
Concerned with the cat's behaviour, the family got up and within minutes the walls started collapsing, prompting the family to flee.
The Vatthalagundu area where they live had been raining heavily, leaving the ground dangerously soft, said the report.
Some animals are sensitive to faint noises and vibrations and the cat might have detected initial ground movement, animal experts are reported to have said.
