TAIPEI - Skytrax ranked Qatar Airways number one in its 2015 World Airline Awards at the Paris Air Show in Le Bourget on June 16, with Cathay Pacific ranking at third place and EVA Air squeezing its way into the top 10 at number nine.

The top 10 airlines were announced in this order - Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Turkish Airlines, Emirates, Etihad, All Nippon Airways (ANA), Garuda Indonesia, EVA Air and Qantas.

EVA Air moved up from number 12 to ninth, and was simultaneously named "World's Best Aircraft Cabin Cleanlines," while China Airlines was ranked at 52, a two-rank improvement since last year's 54.

Qatar Airways has been named number one in the awards twice before, in 2011 and 2012, and came in second place last year. Qatar also took home the award for the best airline in the Middle East.

Cathay Pacific, which was ranked number one last year, fell to third place this year. Singapore Airlines improved a rank, coming in at second place this year. Garuda Indonesia was also named "The World's Best Cabin Crew 2015."

Emirates took away the award for "Best Inflight Entertainment," while Japan's ANA won the award for "Best Staff Service Asia."

The best low-cost airline was given to Malaysia's AirAsia for the seventh year in a row. Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AirAsia Tony Fernandes called the win "significant," in memory of the missing AirAsia flight that went down in the Java Sea last December.

"To be named the 'World's Best' for the seventh consecutive year is an incredible honour, and I dedicate it to the 17,000 AirAsia Allstars who are the force behind it all," Fernandes said.

The Airline Awards rankings were based upon customer satisfaction survey results from September 2014 to May. Survey participants included 18.89 million passengers from 110 countries. The awards judge airlines on a total of 41 assessment items from quality of their airline food, comfort of the cabin seats and cabin crew friendliness.

According to Skytrax's website, the annual World Airline Awards were established in 1999. The awards are often referred to as the Passenger's Choice Awards and have been described as the "Oscars of the service world."
