China residents loot $630,000 worth of fake goods

When authorities in Xuzhou, Jiangsu province seized more than 35.7 tons of counterfeit products to be burned, residents quickly snatched up and ran away with boxes of goods.

Shanghaiist said that it's not uncommon for authorities in China to set fire to masses of counterfeit goods in a lavish display aimed at proving that they're dealing with the fake trade. It's also not uncommon for sticky-fingered individuals who might be passing by to take advantage of a pile of goods up for grabs.

Authorities seized around 2.85 million yuan (S$630,000) worth of fake goods which included food, healthcare products, cosmetics and computer parts.
