Christian evangelist grilled over sex abuse in Surabaya

SURABAYA: Police continue to question a Christian evangelist, identified only as GI, 51, who has been detained for allegedly molesting seven children, both girls and boys.

"The suspect has been detained since Monday. The police have also received testimonies from the victims. Based on a psychiatric examination, the suspect is sexually deviant," East Java Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono said on Friday.

Argo said the victims were five girls, identified only as F, 21, AP, 8, M, 17, R, 20, and MN, 21 and two boys, F, 13, and YN, 13. The victims have reportedly suffered from sexual harassment since 2009.Argo said the victims came from underprivileged families in Nias in North Sumatra.
