Police investigators are looking into a case in which an 8-year-old student at public elementary school SDN 07 Pagi in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, was allegedly beaten to death by a classmate.

"We're currently interviewing several witnesses, including the teacher and the victim's mother," the Kebayoran Lama Police's women and child protection unit head Adj. Comr. Nunu Supadmi said as quoted by kompas.com on Saturday.

The second-grader, Anggrah Ardiansyah, reportedly got into a fight with his classmate, identified as Ricard, during a drawing class at the school on Friday morning.

Kebayoran Lama Police chief Comr. Riftajudin said that Ricard allegedly punched Anggrah in the chest and kicked him in the head. "[Anggrah] then fell and suffered bleeding from the head and chest," he said.

Reports say that Anggrah was rushed to Kebayoran Lama community health centre at around 10 am before being transferred at around 6 pm to Fatmawati Hospital in South Jakarta, where he died.
